Staying at Paramour

Only birdsong and the faint flutter of leaves on the ancient trees in the garden could disturb the peace at this extraordinary Tudor house.

“…Wow! Just wow! What an amazing house. Our stay was absolutely perfect – there are so many different spaces to enjoy in the house; preparing meals in the lovely kitchen; eating in the dining room; lounging around in the TV room; or reading in the front room…” Dan T.

Life at Paramour Grange can only be described as idyllic. Picture yourself in a country house full of character yet with all the conveniences you would expect in a modern home. You will be staying among walls that have seen the changes being brought about by historic events, principally the coronation of King James the 1st, as the most prominent resident of the house, Thomas Paramour, was living here, when he eventually became the Mayor of Canterbury. He commissioned the wall paintings that decorate the main bedroom, a feature unique to the house and not equalled in quality and state of preservation anywhere else in the country, so much so that it made Paramour Grange one of the 50 “Britain’s Secret Homes” featured in the namesake ITV television series in 2013.

“…This place is just absolute perfection. It is even better than what it looks like on the pictures. Every single detail is thought through and made our stay amazing (different lighting “ambiances” and heated floor in the bathrooms, AGA cooker in the kitchen, homemade playlists available on an iPod, scented candles…” Margot F.

It will be the attention to details, the charm of the furniture, implements, furnishings, architectural details, exquisite artefacts and antiques that will transport you to a world of style and homely comfort you will not find anywhere else.

STAYING @12Lie back on a deck chair under the cherry tree in the orchard lawn, basking in the afternoon sun, or play “ZIG” tennis on the front lawn; open the french doors in the garden room and sitting on the sofa read all about the history of the house or your favourite book; sip a chilled glass of the appropriate refreshment at sunset in the rose garden, and marvel at the changing colours the Kent sunsets offer you. Inside there’s plenty of space for a family or a group of friends to spread out as well, from the refined sitting room to the ‘media room’, all filled with plush sofas, books and DVDs. In fact, in every room of the house you will be able to relax and enjoy your stay, in winter and in summer, come rain or shine you will have the perfect combination of comfort and relaxation, within walls that have witnessed the passing of many generations. Historians will be in heaven; a lofty apex ceiling in the dining room, a four-poster and big open fireplaces create bags of character, paintings and books cover the walls.

“…Each of us desired a longer stay and hope to re-visit in the future for everything about this stay was exquisite. Truly a wonderful weekend made more so by your kindness and the beauty of your home…” Lewis G.

STAYING @15Pashtemal cotton towels, cashmere blankets, crisp bed linen, antique Kilim carpets, good quality books, heated bathroom floors and towel rails, a large AGA for your gourmet cooking, the beautiful manicured gardens full of flowers and the famous Paramour roses, an array of Wellington boots for your country walks: all this and more will contribute to your unforgettable experience. The best butcher in Kent is a short stroll away, through the orchards that surround the estate: their cows graze in the paddocks behind it.

STAYING @18Sandwich is a gem! Near the sea, with a wonderful beach for swimming or just walking … for miles! The best Medieval village in the Country! There is a lovely deli in Sandwich where you can get mainly French cheeses, lovely home baked breads and much more! Ramsgate, Margate, Broadstairs, Deal: all worth a visit and within easy reach from Paramour by car but bicycles are available for leisurely rides around the estate and the countryside

Obviously Canterbury is not to be missed, and not just for the fabulous Cathedral: many great shops and more tourist attractions await you. Walking in the countryside around Paramour is invigorating and will get you ready for the gourmet meals you will prepare in the lovely country kitchen when you return: brush up on your AGA cooking skills or let us show you the way.
